Blurred on purpose, then fixed here

Three ways a frame fails, drawn here and measured with the same code

Nothing below is a photograph somebody chose. The frame is drawn by this page, broken in the way the segment names, and — if you press the control — put through the identical worker the button in the rail uses. Two of the three are cases where the answer is no.

Camera shake. Every pixel averaged across nine cells along one axis, which is what a hand-held exposure does.

The case the pass is shaped for. The energy is still in the frame, moved sideways, and a kernel of the measured shape walks most of it back.

These numbers are this processor’s, measured now. What a learned pass would cost to fetch and what it is licensed under are on the weights page.

A clean signature in four steps

  1. Open the photo of your signature. Sign on plain white paper and photograph it in daylight. The ink is found and a crop drawn around it; drag the corners to adjust.
  2. Crop and clean. The smear is measured and undone, the paper's shading removed, and the ink set on clean white in its own colour or pure black.
  3. Type your form's limits. Width and height in pixels and the KB range from your exam or application notice. The file is fitted to them, 2% under the cap.
  4. Save and read the checks. Edge width, signature fill, dimensions and size are checked here, each Pass, Warn or Fail with its number.

Limits

  • Ruled or patterned paper keeps its lines; sign on plain white.
  • Merged strokes cannot be separated again; re-sign and retake.
  • A check passed here is not a promise that a portal will accept the file.

Questions

Does it redraw my signature?

No. Strokes are never redrawn, traced or vectorised. The only change to their shape on offer is a one-pixel thicken or thin, off by default. Everything else is deblurring, paper cleaning and resizing.

Which size and KB limits should I use?

The ones printed on your own notice. Exam and application portals change them every cycle, so this page ships no unverified presets; the boxes start with an example you should overwrite.

Why is my file smaller than the minimum KB?

A small, clean signature on white compresses very well. If the highest JPEG quality is still under the minimum, the check says so; PNG, or a larger pixel box if your form allows it, gives a bigger file.

What does the 80% fill check mean?

An SSC advisory asks that the signature fill at least 80% of its box. The check measures how much of the width the ink spans; crop closer if it is under.

When won't this work?

On a signature photographed so blurred that strokes have merged, on lined or patterned paper (the lines are kept as ink), or on a very faint pen. Re-sign on plain paper with a dark pen and retake it.
